For those looking for some weekend fun across the border, why not head for Johor Bahru for one of the biggest pet events of the year – Pet Zone 2015. Held at the Mall of Medini and organised by the Dog Groomers’ Association of Singapore (DGA) on 15 August 2015 from 12 – 7pm, entry to this pet bonanza is free for all. To bring along your dog or to enter it in the Dog Fashion Show, pre-registering is required, which will entitle you to a goody bag and automatic qualification for the lucky draw.In this large-scale gathering of pets and owners, you can look forward to a whole host of games designed especially for some fun bonding time with your fur-kid, with many attractive prizes to boot.Besides this, a veritable parade of dog breeds and exotic pets will be on display: Birds like the Congo African Grey Parrot, Cockatiel and the Javanese Minah will set hearts aflutter. Those representing reptiles include the Albino & Hypo Burmese Python, Bearded Dragon and the Bull Frog. There are even crustaceans and insects like the Rainbow Crab, Scorpion and Tarantula Spider. Mammals span Palm Civet Cats, Sugar Gliders, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters and Albino Ferrets.Look out for the Dog Fashion Show, which is another event highlight (with a RM2 entry fee). Dress your fur kid to impress as they ‘dogwalk’ their way into audience’s hearts. Winners stand to win hampers filled with dog products and grooming vouchers.Moreover, owners can attend Obedience and Training Demonstration to pick up some helpful tips for training and discipline.
Owners can also take the opportunity to browse an exciting variety of pet related products and services offered by the numerous booths, from Japanese micro-bubble skin treatment technology and probiotics for dogs to cute bow ties and free ear cleaning for dogs.
Pet Zone will be a series of pet-related events which DGA intends to organize to assist in the development of the pet industry of Johor, which has seen much grooming talents who have contributed to Singapore’s own pet industry over the years. This is in line with DGA’s aim of continuing to improve and enhance the grooming skills of professional groomers in Singapore, as well as Malaysia, through awareness seminars, small workshops and large scale public events on how to care and maintain for their pets on a day to day basis at home.
