Community & Strays: Our Singapore Kitties Need Our Love Too

Attention: Stay tuned to the end for a special Clubpets E-store surprise for all adopted pet owners!

Despite how developed and urbanised Singapore’s landscape is, you’d be surprised by the number of strays living among our concrete constructions.

From our HDB void decks to our roadside curbs, sightings of stray cats are extremely common — to the point where many have endearingly become community cats in residential areas. Inadvertently, this has also led to the establishment of many feeder groups around Singapore to care for these stray kitties.

Every animal deserves a good, loving home. However, if you’re unable to house a furry companion due to circumstances, consider donating, sponsoring or even volunteering at these organisations and shelters. Every single action counts towards making a huge, paw-sitive impact!

Cat Adoption Centres to Check Out

1.    Kitten Sanctuary Singapore (KiSS)

Kitten Sanctuary Singapore is a haven for all community felines. As a registered non-profit animal welfare group, it’s entirely spearheaded by a group of compassionate volunteers.

They’re also big on advocating and educating the public on kitten adoption — so much so that they founded Tiny Purrs, Singapore’s first and only neonatal baby kitten nursery and kitten kindergarten in late 2019.

Housing over 20 gorgeous kitties, be sure to cat-proof your home well before taking one of these beauties home. Moreover, every little deed goes a long way: consider donating, volunteering, buying their merchandise or even paying them a visit to support their cause.

2.    Cat Welfare Society (CWS)

Unlike the other organisations listed above, Cat Welfare Society is not a shelter and doesn’t house any cats. Instead, they’re a registered society and charity featuring a public online cat adoption board for people to list cats in need of a home.

With a mission to engage and educate the public in achieving sustainable and humane management of Singapore’s cats, they advocate through outreach programs, sterilisation and mediation services.

Since CWS is entirely run by volunteers forking out their free time to manage this society, every bit of help is gladly appreciated. To find out more on how you can volunteer and help, click here. Donations are also kindly accepted.

Love Kuching is a volunteer-run cat welfare group in Singapore that rescues and rehabilitates chronically ill and injured community cats. You can meet their furry cuties here and adoption costs roughly $65. Apart from that, they also run a cat therapy initiative where their outreach team conducts therapy sessions in nursing homes and special needs institutions.

Some Honourable Mentions

1.    Causes for Animals (CAS)

Source: Causes For Animals

As one of the largest local animal welfare charities, Causes for Animals was created when young volunteers who were individually committed to separate shelters endeavoured to do more collectively.

Hence, CAS works with other shelters and animal welfare organisations to support them in their work through partnerships, adoption programs, rehabilitation or medical assistance.

Most importantly, their core Trap-Neuter-Release program has been significant in working towards a stray-free Singapore. They employ various programs and policies in order to promote the most ethical, sustainable and compassionate treatment towards Singapore’s street animals.

CAS also organises regular food drives to deliver to partner shelters under them such as ALL, Oasis Shelter, Gentle Paws and Exclusively Mongrels — feeding almost 1,000 dogs and 250 cats.

Adoption of their canines and felines can range anywhere between $80 to $100. Do support them in other ways like sponsoring, fostering, donations and volunteering where possible!

2.    Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA)

Now, SPCA might be one of the biggest household names when it comes to pet adoption. However, every bit of support still counts.

As an animal protection organisation, SPCA’s work is essential to mitigating and safeguarding pets against abandonment and abuse. They have a 24/7 emergency rescue hotline handling any incoming cases of emergency rescues, animal abuse and even, missing animals.

If you’re keen to save a life, check out their loveable animals available. Adoptions can cost between $25 to $150. Otherwise, apart from the usual involvement in shelters, also consider supporting them through their events and shopping their merchandise.

Last but not least, Mutts & Mittens has the best of both worlds — offering assistance to animal welfare groups to rescue and rehome animals in need as well as operating their pet boarding service for owners away.
