A Pet Owner’s Guide To Dog Grooming

While all pet owners wish for the best for their dogs, it is not financially feasible to constantly visit a professional groomer. An essential activity that helps maintain the dog’s hygiene, home grooming can be as effective as a professional’s. From bathing to brushing, listed below are some tips for home grooming.

For a good scrub down, do first prepare a washcloth, shampoo, conditioner and a towel. During the bath, it is advisable to massage the shampoo into your dog’s fur before rinsing it out and applying some conditioner. After which, rinse out the conditioner before drying the dog with a clean towel. If your dog gets overly-excited during bath times, you may wish to direct its attention to a bath toy. Do note that while daily baths are not required, it is encouraged to give your dog a bath at least once a week.

Brushing your dog's fur is an opportunity to bond and a great time to understand your dog’s needs. While shorter coats requires weekly brushings, dogs with longer coats will call for more attention. Consistent brushing will help to remove dirt, reduce fur tangling and minimise shedding. Do also take the time to check for potential skin inflammations or signs of skin disease.

Fur trimming

Besides evening out your pet’s coat, fur trimming will also allow pet owners to remove unwanted tangles. Plus, no pet owner will wish for their pet to look unkempt. However, do be extra mindful when handling the trimming scissors, to avoid accidentally hurting your furry friend.

Nail trimming

As long nails are prone to infection, a pet’s nails should be trimmed regularly. While a clipper and grinder should do the job, you may also consider looking through the list of available tools on an online pet shop in Singapore for more recommendations.

That said, one can still consider seeking pet grooming services, to give your dog the occasional treat.
